Dr. Cicero Cardoso Pola is a an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Sciences at Iowa State University. With a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State and a Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology from the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil, his research focuses on microfabrication of graphene-based biosensors for food safety, environmental monitoring, and healthcare applications. His work includes electrochemical detection of viruses, foodborne pathogens, and contaminants such as PFAS using laser-induced graphene electrodes. Dr. Pola has received numerous awards for research excellence and has contributed extensively to peer-reviewed publications, patents, and book chapters.
