Dr. Faranak Beigmohammadi

Dr. Faranak Beigmohammadi is a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University and is affiliated with the Polymer and Food Protection Consortium. Her research projects focus on understanding and developing an analytical method to detect PFAS in food packaging in close coordination with industry partners under the supervision of Dr. Keith Vorst.

Her master's degree in Food Science and Technology focused on the mutagenicity of Kombucha tea with the Ames test. After graduation, she worked as an instructor at Azad University, Iran, and taught to undergraduate students. She received her Ph.D. in active food packaging based on LDPE incorporated with nanoparticles from the University of Tabriz, Iran. Then, she served as an assistant professor to teach graduate students and helped them with their research and dissertations as well. She has also conducted several research projects on biopolymers based on starch. In 2020, she extended her research program as a postdoctoral research fellow with the Verschuren Centre, Sydney NS, in Canada on the extraction of bioproducts from seafood waste with a fermentation approach for food packaging
