Tien is a Ph.D. student and a graduate research assistant in Food Science and Technology at Iowa State University. Her major professor is Dr. Keith Vorst. Her research primarily focuses on plastic recycling of post-consumer waste materials.

Tien completed her B.S. in Chemical Engineering at ISU in 2022. As an undergraduate, she worked as an undergraduate research technician investigating grape-derived agricultural residues used in chocolate recipes to enhance health. Tien was also a Manufacturing Engineering Intern at 3M Knoxville. She commissioned a new SOP software and developed troubleshooting guides for flexible film slitters.
