Dr. Victor Sanfins Cecon
- Recent Ph.D. Recipient
- Former Graduate Research Assistant
Victor recently received his Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology at Iowa State University. He was also one of the recipients in 2023 of the Research Excellence Award from the Iowa State University Graduate College. His major professor was Dr. Keith Vorst. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Sao Carlos (UFSCar, Brazil) in 2019, being a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbia (UBC, Canada) for one year. During his undergraduate studies, he was an undergraduate research assistant for one year at the University of Sao Paulo (USP, Brazil), working with the optimization of fuel cells. He was also an R&D intern for 1.5 years at 3M Brazil, working with the processing and characterization of polymers containing hollow glass microspheres. His doctoral research investigated mechanical and chemical recycling of post-industrial and post-consumer plastic waste in the Chemical Upcycling of Waste Plastics, a multi-university center funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE). He also conducted research funded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the detection of micro- and nanoplastics in food waste streams for animal feed.
